
If a kiss has a color, this one is the muted shades of the sky overhead, a ménage a trois of midnight and indigo and moonshine silver. The writing is beautiful, just balancing on that edge of poetry and contemporality. The author doesn’t shy away from politics: we are talking climate change, Indigenous land rights, reservations, white male privilege, violence against women, missing Indigenous women and girls among others Some highlights that captured me thus far: Just when I thought I must have read all the good romance books out there, is proving me wrong one brilliant page at a time. This morning I started the first book of her All the King’s Men series and… probably wish I waited until the weekend because my Friday is lost.Īs mentioned, I’ve read less than a quarter of the first book so far, but I am in awe with the tension, the setting, the stunning writing, the poetry and humour of this book.


It’s a must read.I tried to get into Kennedy Ryan’s catalogue before with Long Shot but that book just didn’t click for me. The romance is stellar and the ending will leave you the edge of your seat. The Kingmaker is a gripping book about love and loss. I understood character motives, even though it might have hurt my heart a little. The drama felt real and the stakes felt high.

But fortunately, that isn’t the cause of The Kingmaker. It doesn’t feel authentic nor does it make sense for either character. Sometimes when writing a romance novel authors create unnecessary or random drama to keep the lead apart. There was this familiarity and comfort they both had. There were so many times while reading where I muttered out loud about how cute they were together. Both of them work separately while also working together. That was very unpredictable and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next installment.īoth main characters were amazingly three dimensional characters who you can’t help but love. Everything is perfectly blended and it’s hard not to be immediately sucked into it. Because it most certainly is not It’s a story of love, loss, privilege, and politics. I wouldn’t necessarily say this is a light book.

The man who has brought devastation to her people. Unbeknownst to her, he’s the son of the man she hates the most. While a teenager, fate brings her and Maxim together. It’s a second chance romance that does not disappoint. The Kingmaker was a hidden gem that I’m grateful that I was able to stumble upon.
